Major League pitchers suffered severe shell-shock in 1998, with more than eighty players belting twenty or more home runs. Chief among the feared mashers, were Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa, who famously dueled all season in a race to surpass Roger Maris' single-season home run mark. McGwire finished with 70, to Sosa's 66 dingers, and the barrage got even heavier in 1999, with more than a hundred sluggers blasting twenty-plus homers.

Mark McGwire led all of baseball in four-baggers for the fourth consecutive season in 1999, with a total of sixty-five, some of which came off of the game-used bat offered here. Marked "MAC25" on the knob, this Rawlings Big Stick bat is un-cracked, and shows heavy use, including numerous contact marks, back rack streaks, and gripping agent residue. The tremendous display put on by McGwire during this period, had fans across the nation tuning in to ESPN over and over to witness highlights of his latest slugging accomplishments, and this remarkable game-used bat is an outstanding treasure from this thrilling, historic era.
