In Ruth's wake, two interesting things happened. Opposing hurlers pitched around Gehrig, spurring him to amass a career-high 132 walks. And Gehrig got to take over the prime real estate of the sweet spot that Babe had always monopolized. Though perhaps the Bambino had the last laugh after all, since his presence and spirit remained here in the form of Spalding's iconic "Babe Ruth / Home Run Special" stamp. The scuffed, soiled, darkly toned ball features red-and-blue seams and a "3-4"-strength Gehrig signature. The rest range from equivalent strength to barely legible, with additional Hall of Famers Gomez, Ruffing and Dickey, plus notables Murphy, D. Walker and Hoag. The McCarthy autograph is a clubhouse example. Full LOA from JSA.
