A versatile weapon out of the backfield and on special teams, running back Joe Washington wore and autographed this Washington Redskins helmet during his tenure (1981-1984) in the Nation’s Capital. The maroon plastic shell features Native American-themed logo decals adhered to the sides, a yellow and white striped pattern down the center and a “25” decal adhered to the back. On the left side logo, Washington has signed in black marker (“7-8” strength) and inscribed “25.” Crafted by “Bike,” the gridiron accessory features a four-bar facemask, interior padding strips and cells, as well as snap-on jaw pads. Solid game use is evident with scuff marks about the outer shell. Of note is that Washington used this helmet in any or all of his four seasons with the Redskins. While the team had alternate logo decals during the 1982 season, Washington was the lone Redskins player to wear the 1972-1981 style logo.
