Description

A key component on Baltimore’s three straight National League championship rosters of 1894-1896, catcher Wilbert Robinson was an Oriole through and through, embracing the team’s rough and tumble style and passionate fans. Loyal to the city, as well, Robinson was one of two Orioles Hall of Famers (along with John McGraw) to pass away in 1934 and have his body shipped back to Baltimore for burial at New Cathedral Cemetery. This Robinson autograph represents one of the most fleeting of Cooperstown signatures and is a cornerstone to the serious collection. Rendered in black-ink steel tip fountain pen on an unevenly trimmed strip of 3-3/4”-long, Robinson’s penning projects (“6”) potency (with the surname slightly lesser) and is adhered to a blank sheet of approximately 5x3.
